Go to FilmStar home page FilmStar Optical Thin Film Software is a suite of Windows programs for designing, manufacturing, and measuring optical thin film coatings. Optical coatings are applied to glass and other surfaces by high vacuum deposition. Applications range from spectacle lenses to telecom filters. FilmStar is distinguished by its ease-of-use, connectivity to monitoring and measuring instruments, and the ability of users to customize and automate. No other thin film software comes close.

Go to Scantraq home page

Marketed to chemists and spectroscopists, Scantraq is a standalone version of FilmStar MEASURE supporting UV/Vis/IR data acquisition and analysis from popular PerkinElmer, Varian, and Agilent models. With its built-in development tools, Scantraq provides a powerful alternative to the software supplied by instrument manufacturers. FTG is especially proud that ExxonMobil utilizes Scantraq at numerous locations.

Why FilmStar?...Over the past few years we've sent a number of informative e-mail messages to prospective users. We also posted the messages on our website for those who cannot receive HTML e-mails.

We suggest that you browse these (sometimes amusing) e-adverts and ask yourself whether FilmStar can help your work and career in optical films. Click here for a page of clickable thumbnails similar to the one at the left. Colorful flyers and brochures are also available in PDF format:

Don't like your spectrophotometer software? We don't blame you! It has functions you never use and limited or non-existent possibilities for automation. And talk about cumbersome!

FilmStar MEASURE (or Scantraq for chemists) runs nearly all new and legacy PE models plus Varian, OOI and Zeiss spectrometers! FilmStar brings the advantages of common software for all your instruments plus 100% compatibility with analysis software!

MEASURE and Scantraq deliver the features and benefits you need: a powerful automation language, industry-standard database support, superb graphics and many other important features. Contact us today for an online demonstration!

A lovely design!

Does your company sell coating designs? That would be a terrific business! No leaking vacuum chambers, no burned-out filaments, no jammed chip-changers! Really, it's a shame that coating companies actually have to deposit thin films in order to get paid.

Seriously, experienced coating engineers know that film design is not usually the #1 problem. The #1 problem is getting measured curves to match the designs! Nothing compares to FilmStar for the business of coating: transferring designs to production, managing and automating quality-control, even creating marketing materials.

Who knew?

Using other thin film software? Add FilmStar! There's no law against using more than one package and there's a good chance that a design from one program will be improved in another. Click here for an example!

A few users have told us that they occasionally design coatings in other software before transferring designs to FilmStar. As a user explained, "After the design is finished, I transfer it to FilmStar and use my macros to prepare it for production or to discuss it with the customer."  To this end, FilmStar supports ODX (Optical Design eXchange, June 2005), an XML format for transferring designs and materials.
